Windows 7\Vista network problems
We have 3 vlan, 3 dhcp servers, 2 DNS. When i´m connected to vlan1 and vlan2 everything works just fine. But when i connect the client to vlan3 i can only acces to networks shares on vlan3 and i can´t browse Internet. When connected to vlan3 i recieve an IP from DHCP and default gateway. Everyting works just fine with XP clients an all vlans. All clients are meber of a domain. Johan Svensson

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: (Please connect the Windows 7 computer to VLAN3 first.) 1. Please check your DNS server setting of the VLAN 3 and ensure the Windows 7 have got the correct network settings via the DHCP server. 2. Check if you can ping the DNS server and some external URLS. 3. Ensure that the computer is using the correct DNS server for name resolutions: Please run the following command in a command prompt: >nslookup >www.microsoft.com (You can also try other URLs.) Will the correct IP address be returned? 4. Manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings to this network adapter referring to the configurations of the Windows XP computer which works fine and check if it works. 5. Boot the computer to Safe Mode with networking and have a check. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi, thank you for your reply. 1. Please check your DNS server setting of the VLAN 3 and ensure the Windows 7 have got the correct network settings via the DHCP server. I have checked DHCP and DNS settings, it all works with a XP client on all vlans so DNS or DHCP should not be the issue, i can´t find any configurations that is diffrent from any of the DNS or DHCP. 2. Check if you can ping the DNS server and some external URLS. I can only ping IP on vlan 23. 3. Ensure that the computer is using the correct DNS server for name resolutions: Please run the following command in a command prompt: >nslookup >www.microsoft.com (You can also try other URLs.) Will the correct IP address be returned? The correct IP adress returns but it´s timeout. 4. Manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and the DNS settings to this network adapter referring to the configurations of the Windows XP computer which works fine and check if it works. Tried this as well, still no luck. 5. Boot the computer to Safe Mode with networking and have a check.Just contact within vlan 23.Something must be diffrent on vlan 23 but i´m clueless where to start. Must be some routing problem related to Vista and Windows 7 or hardware between the networks.//Johan

Problem is finaly solved. There was a warming device with wrong IP confriguation. The device acted like default gateway for vlan 23. //JohanMatt clark
